Air Regulations for DGCA ground preparation

Your air regulations study map

This is a preparation outline, not a replacement for the current licence-specific DGCA syllabus. Check the official syllabus before choosing chapters; CPL and ATPL requirements need not be identical.

Framework and responsibilities

International organisations and conventions, national regulations, responsibilities of pilots and operators, and the limits of each authority.

Rules and procedures

Rules of the air, air traffic services, communication, separation concepts and aerodrome procedures. Keep the operational context with the rule.

Licensing and airworthiness

Study the purpose of licences, ratings, certificates and aircraft documentation. Confirm current requirements in the relevant CAR.

Human and operational factors

Human performance, safety responsibilities and operational decision-making. Distinguish an exam fact from a situation-dependent judgement.

A practical way to study a regulation

Make a five-part rule card

Document → scope → condition → responsibility → action. For a provision you are studying, note its official source, who it applies to, the condition that activates it, who must act and what must happen.

If a practice answer contradicts the current official document, investigate the source and amendment date. An older question bank is not an authority for today's rule.

Avoid familiar traps

  • Confusing an ICAO standard with a national implementation.
  • Recalling a number but dropping its units, conditions or exception.
  • Using an old edition for a requirement that has changed.
  • Assuming a practice platform is endorsed by the regulator.
