First, look at "Engine Thrust" on page 311. That's the force that moves the aircraft forward, produced by the engine. It's a major topic, and it has its own chapter.
Now, the "F" entries. "Feathered" on page 168 — that's the condition of a propeller blade when it's turned edge-on to the airflow to reduce drag, usually after an engine failure. Then you have "Feathering and Unfeathering" on page 176, which is the process of putting the blade into that feathered position and bringing it back out. There are two types: "Feathering - Double Acting Propeller" on page 179, and "Feathering - Single Acting Propeller" on page 177. A single-acting propeller uses one source of power to feather, while a double-acting propeller can both feather and unfeather under power.
You'll also see "Fixed Pitch Propellers" on page 166 — that's a propeller where the blade angle is fixed and cannot be changed in flight. And "Flight-fine" on page 168 — that's the finest blade angle setting used for flight, as opposed to ground fine.
Now, moving into the engine systems. "Firing Interval" on page 26 and "Firing Order" on page 26 — these relate to the sequence in which the cylinders of a piston engine fire. "Four Stroke" on page 3 is the basic operating cycle of a piston engine: intake, compression, power, exhaust.
"First Law" on pages 4 and 5 — that's the First Law of Thermodynamics, the principle of conservation of energy. "Force" on page 4 is the fundamental physical quantity. "Frequency" on page 9 is the number of cycles per second. "Friction" on page 43, and "Friction Horse Power" on page 21 — that's the power lost to friction inside the engine.
Now, the fuel system entries. "Fuel/Air Control Unit" on page 127, "Fuel Manifold Valve" on page 127, and "Fuel Pumps" on page 127 — these are all components of the fuel delivery system. "Fuel Spray Nozzles" on page 256 are what inject the fuel into the combustion chamber. "Fuel Filter" on page 376, "Fuel Heater" on page 376, "Fuel Pressure and Temperature" on page 376, and "Flowmeter" on page 376 — these are all instrumentation and conditioning items. "Fuel Icing" on page 118 is the formation of ice in the fuel system, and "FSII (Fuel System Icing Inhibitor)" on page 368 is the additive that prevents it. "Fuel Colour" on page 367 is how you identify different fuel grades. "Fuel Drain System" on page 251 is for removing water and sediment.
"Flame Rate" on page 79 is the speed at which a flame propagates through a fuel-air mixture, and "Flame Rate of Kerosene" on page 247 is that value specifically for kerosene, which is your jet fuel.
"Fir Tree Root" on page 271 — that's the shape of the turbine blade root that locks into the disc. "Fixed Orifice" on page 143 is a restriction in a fluid line. "Flyweight Cutout Switch" on page 355 is a mechanical switch in a propeller governor.
"Free Power Turbine" on pages 208 and 268 — that's a turbine that is not mechanically connected to the compressor, used in turboprop and turboshaft engines.
"FCOC" on page 375 — that's the Fuel Cooled Oil Cooler, a heat exchanger that uses fuel to cool the engine oil.
And finally, "Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC)" on page 380 — that's the electronic system that has complete control over the engine, managing fuel flow and other parameters automatically.
