We're starting a brand-new chapter now: Flight Crew Licensing. This is the heart of how you, as a pilot, get the legal right to fly. Let's look at the roadmap first. The chapter opens with an Introduction, then moves into Definitions. After that, we have the General Rules Concerning Licensing, which are the overarching regulations. Then we get into the specific Licences and Ratings for Pilots. That's where we'll cover the Private Pilot Licence (Aeroplane), which is the PPL(A); the Commercial Pilot Licence (Aeroplane), the CPL(A); the Airline Transport Pilot Licence (Aeroplane), the ATPL(A); and the Multi-crew Pilot Licence, the MPL. We'll also look at the Instrument Rating for aeroplanes, the IR(A), and the Instructor and Examiner Ratings. Then we have JAR-FCL 3 Medical Requirements — that's the medical standards you must meet. After that, Pilot Proficiency, and finally the EASA Theoretical Knowledge Examinations. The chapter ends with practice Questions and their Answers. So, the structure is: definitions first, then general rules, then each licence type, then medical and proficiency standards, then the exams. We'll work through it in that order.
