This is the index of the Air Law manual — the table of contents that maps out the entire syllabus. I want to walk you through what this tells you about the structure of your course, because knowing where things sit helps you build the mental framework you'll need. Look at the entries here. You've got the Rules of the Air at page 97 — that's the foundational block, the general operating rules that apply to every flight. Then you've got the Rome Convention at page 36, which is an international treaty dealing with damage caused by aircraft to third parties on the surface — that's part of the liability and legal framework. Now, notice the cluster of runway-related items. This is where the physical aerodrome infrastructure lives. Runways at page 377, Runway Strips at 378, Runway End Safety Area (RESA) at 378 — that's the safety area beyond the runway end. Then the markings: Runway Designation Marking at 395, Runway Centre Line Marking at 396, Runway Side Stripe Marking at 399, Runway Holding Position Marking at 400. And the lighting: Runway Edge Lights at 428, Runway End Lights at 429, Runway Centre Line Lights at 429, Runway Touchdown Zone Lights at 429, Runway lead-in lights at 429, Runway Threshold and Wing Bar Lights at 428, Runway Threshold Identification Lights at 428, Runway Guard Lights at 431. You also have the holding positions — Runway Holding Positions at 383, and the signs and lights associated with them: Road-Holding Position Signs at 409, Road-holding Position Lights at 431, and the Runway vacated sign at 407. Then there's RVSM at pages 120 and 121 — that's Reduced Vertical Separation Minimum, the system that lets aircraft fly with 1,000 feet vertical separation above FL290 instead of 2,000 feet. And you have the Search and Rescue block: Search and Rescue at 26, SARPs at 27 — that's Standards and Recommended Practices — SAR Regions at 463, SAR Signals at 466, Scheduled Flight at 25, Safety of Passengers and Crew at 475, and Searching of aircraft. This is your roadmap. When we get into the aerodrome chapter, you'll see how the markings, lights, and signs all work together to guide an aircraft safely on the ground. That's the core of what you're building toward.
