AH at page 169 — that's the Artificial Horizon, the primary attitude indicator that shows the aircraft's pitch and bank relative to the true horizon. AIDS at page 499 — that's Aircraft Integrated Data Systems. This is the system that automatically records and transmits aircraft performance and maintenance data. Airborne Collision Avoidance System at page 479 — that's the ACAS, the system that monitors surrounding traffic and issues advisories to prevent mid-air collisions. ACARS at page 319 — the Aircraft Communication Addressing and Reporting System. This is the digital data link that lets the aircraft exchange messages with the ground — things like weather updates, flight plans, and maintenance reports. Aircraft Installation Delay at page 267 — this is a specific type of instrument error, a lag or delay in how quickly an instrument responds to a change in the measured quantity, caused by how it's physically installed. Aircraft Operational Centre, abbreviated AOC, at page 319 — this is the airline's ground-based operations hub that manages flights, crews, and dispatch. Aircraft Performance at page 25 — that's the data on how the aircraft climbs, cruises, descends, and lands, which feeds into the instruments that display performance information. Aircraft Stabilization at page 352 — that's the automatic systems that keep the aircraft stable in flight, damping out oscillations. Aircraft Systems at page 311 — the general category covering all the aircraft's electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems that the instruments monitor. Air Data at page 366 — this is the set of parameters derived from the atmosphere: pressure altitude, airspeed, Mach number, temperature, and so on. Air Data Computer, abbreviated ADC, at pages 91, 97, 98, and 337 — this is the central computer that takes raw sensor inputs — pitot pressure, static pressure, temperature — and computes the air data parameters the pilots and other systems need. Air Driven Artificial Horizon at page 172 — that's a specific type of attitude indicator powered by a vacuum or pressure source, rather than electrically. Airports at page 293 — the section on airport-related instrumentation and navigation aids. Air Temperature Thermometers at page 26 — the instruments that measure outside air temperature, which is critical for performance calculations. Air Traffic Advisory Service at page 319 — a service that provides advice and information to aircraft, but not full separation control. Air Traffic Control Service at page 319 — the full service that provides separation and positive control of aircraft. Air Traffic Management at page 319 — the broader concept that includes ATC, flow management, and airspace management. Air Traffic Service Unit, abbreviated ATSU, at page 319 — the specific facility, like a control tower or area control centre, that provides these services. ALERT at page 242 — that's a warning system, likely a specific alerting function in the aircraft's warning systems. And finally, Alert annunciator — that's the visual indicator, typically a light or flag, that illuminates to draw the pilot's attention to a warning condition. Now, I want you to notice something important about how this index is structured. You'll see some entries have multiple page numbers — like the Air Data Computer at 91, 97, 98, and 337. That tells you the topic is introduced in one place and then developed or applied in others. When you're studying, you should look at all the page references, not just the first one, because each page adds something new.
