I want to walk you through the Operational Flight Plan form that you see here. This is the core document you will use on every flight to plan, record, and monitor fuel, time, and progress. Below that we have "AVG WC" (average wind component), "AVG FF" (average fuel flow), and "TOC" (top of climb — the point where you reach your cruising altitude). Now look at the main body of the form. It is organised as a table with columns. The first column is "SEG" — that stands for segment, meaning each leg or phase of the flight. Then we have "FROM-TO" again for each segment, "FL" (flight level), "AVG TC" (average true course), "W/V" (wind velocity — direction and speed), "GS" (ground speed), "DIST" (distance), "TIME", and "FUEL". The last column is "INT FUEL" — that means the fuel remaining on board at the end of each segment, the integrated or cumulative fuel. Down the left side of the table, you see labels for the different phases. Starting from the top: "TAXI FUEL", then "TKOF FUEL" (takeoff fuel), then "TRIP FUEL", "CONT FUEL" (contingency fuel), "ALTN FUEL" (alternate fuel), "FINAL RES" (final reserve), "EXTRA FUEL", and "BLOCK FUEL" at the bottom. These are the standard fuel planning categories under regulations. Let me read the entries in the table so you see how it works. The first segment row shows "340 280/40" — that means flight level 340, wind 280 degrees at 40 knots. The INT FUEL column shows "M" — that likely stands for a calculated value or a marker. Further down we see "STEP CL" — step climb, meaning a climb to a higher flight level during cruise. Then "INT FUEL assumed 80" — that is a note that the integrated fuel at that point is assumed to be 80 units (probably kilograms or pounds, we need to check the units elsewhere). At the bottom of the table we have the alternate segment: "ALTN FL AVG TC W/V GS DIST TIME FUEL INT FUEL EGCC 330 250/30 M ADD DES X LM49,700KG M INT FUEL M ADD DES LM" — this is the alternate airport, EGCC (Manchester), at flight level 330, wind 250/30, and "ADD DES" means additional descent fuel. "LM49,700KG" is likely the landing mass — 49,700 kilograms. On the right side of the form there is a vertical list: "EST ZFM" (estimated zero fuel mass), "TIME", "TAS", "TOM" (takeoff mass), "CALC NAM ACC FUEL" (calculated name? or calculated navigation? — this is a fuel accounting line), "ACC" (accumulated), "C C A T N I A SI B M C FLT" — these are probably column headers for a fuel monitoring log, with "acc+CA* X" being an accumulated fuel plus correction factor. The key takeaway here is that an Operational Flight Plan is a structured document that captures every phase of the flight — taxi, takeoff, climb, cruise, step climbs, descent, alternate, and reserves — with fuel, time, distance, and wind data for each segment. The INT FUEL column lets you track how much fuel you have left at each point, and the bottom summary gives you your block fuel (total fuel on board at engine start) and all the regulatory fuel categories. This is the document you will use to brief, fly, and monitor your fuel against the plan.
