Then we have "GNSS" at 325 — that's the Global Navigation Satellite System, the umbrella term for satellite-based navigation. "Go-around" at 16 — that's the missed approach procedure, when you abort the landing and climb away. "Go-around Mode" at 395 — that's the autopilot or autothrottle mode that commands that go-around maneuver.
"GPS" at 271 — that's the Global Positioning System, the American satellite navigation system. "Heading & Drift" at 243 — that's the display showing your heading and the drift angle. "Heading Indicator" at 211 and 218 — that's the directional gyro, the instrument that shows your heading. "Heading Mode" at 345 — that's the autopilot mode that holds a selected heading. "Heading Select" at 368 — that's the function that lets you choose a heading. "Heading Select Marker" at 219 — that's the bug on the heading indicator. And "Heading Selector Control" — that's the knob you turn to set the desired heading.
So the key thing to understand here is that this index is organized alphabetically, and each entry gives you the page number or numbers where that topic is discussed. When you see multiple page numbers, like with GPWS, that means the topic appears in several places throughout the book. When you see an acronym and a full name both listed, they point to the same content. And when you see a typo like "Gyro Compassed," you just recognize it for what it is and move on.
This is your reference tool. When you're studying, you use this to jump straight to a topic. When you're revising, you use this to check that you've covered everything. It's the backbone of your study plan.
