You'll see abbreviations like AUW, BRP, CAS, CD, CI, CL, and C of G. These are the shorthand terms you'll use constantly in professional aviation. AUW is All-Up Weight — the total weight of the aircraft. BRP is the Brake Release Point — the moment you release the brakes for takeoff. CAS is Calibrated Airspeed — the indicated airspeed corrected for instrument and position error. CD is the drag coefficient, CI is the cost index, CL is the lift coefficient, and C of G is the Centre of Gravity.
Now, the page numbers tell you where each topic lives. Balanced Field is on pages 4 and 259 — that's the takeoff distance concept where the accelerate-stop distance equals the accelerate-go distance. Baulked Landing is on page 4 and the Baulked Landing Requirement on page 237 — that's the go-around after a rejected landing. Best Angle of Climb Speed, Vx, is on page 60 — the speed giving the greatest height gain per unit of horizontal distance.
